Jiang Family Courtyard

The Jiang Family Courtyard is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hunan Province.

The Jiang Family Courtyard is located in Jinhua Village, Shuzipu Township, Lingling District, Yongzhou City, and was first built during the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty (1621–1626).

The courtyard covers an area of 2,500 square meters and is built of brick and wood. It consists of a main gate, three courtyards, three main halls, and a row of wing rooms on both sides. Since its construction, the building has been directly inhabited by the Jiang family for generations, with only the roof tiles repaired over the years. Despite the passage of time, it has retained the authentic charm of Ming Dynasty architecture from southern Hunan and reflects the architectural artistry of the Ming Dynasty in Henan. Stone benches, column bases, spandrels, eaves brackets, and dougong (bracket sets) feature extensive use of high relief and round carving techniques. The carvings are exquisitely detailed, with clear lines, vivid shapes, and lifelike depictions. In particular, the lotus-shaped bluestone benches, though simply designed, convey a sense of motion and exemplify typical Ming Dynasty carving artistry. The structure holds significant historical, artistic, and scientific value.

In 2011, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Hunan Province.

Jinhua Village:

Jinhua Village is located in Shuzipu Township, Lingling District, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province. Nestled in a mountain valley and surrounded by wildflowers—especially abundant golden calendula—the village was thus named. The village committee is based in Luojia House and administers ten villager groups, including Huaqiao Pengjia, Luojia House, Renjiao Zhongjia, and Dàyuanzi Jiangjia. The village spans a total area of 3.1 square kilometers and has a population of 233 households, totaling 1,007 people.
