Hui Pingshou Mosque
Hui Pingshou Mosque is a cultural tourism attraction.
Hui Pingshou Mosque is located at No. 63, Jinshifang Street, Xicheng District. Its construction date is unknown. It originally covered an area of 4,000 square meters. The mihrab in the main prayer hall of the mosque faces away from Mecca, as Mecca is to the west of China, so the prayer hall of the mosque is oriented westward, facing east.
There are three gates, all with hip-and-gable roofs and built of stone. The lintel reads “Imperial-bestowed Pingshou Mosque.” There is one gate on each side. The second gate is a moon gate. When the screen wall of the second gate was dismantled, a stone plaque inscribed with “Moon-Watching Tower” was discovered, flanked by the words “Reconstructed on the first day of the spring month in the year Yihai of the Chongzhen era.” On both sides of the moon gate are five rooms each: five rooms to the south used as a bathhouse, and five rooms to the north used as a lecture hall. The main prayer hall is a “four-break-five” structure, consisting of 18 rooms, with a three-room front porch and a rear porch. Originally there were three plaques: the middle one in Arabic, and the two side ones in Chinese. The left one reads “Originally Without Change,” and the right one reads “Never to Turn Again.” The rear prayer chamber consists of the mihrab and the pulpit. There are four steles inside the mosque. The Xicheng District Islamic Association is headquartered here.
