Guanyin Temple Overhead Building
The Guanyin Temple Overhead Building is located on Guancaiyuan Shangjie in Xuanwu District, situated between Guancaiyuan Shangjie and Zixin Road. The West Guanyin Temple is on the west side of the road, facing south with a north orientation and features a four-tiered hall; the East Guanyin Temple is on the east side of the road and consists of only 51 rooms. The two temples are connected by an overhead building, beneath which there is an arched gateway. It is the only remaining physical example of an overhead building from old Beijing. The southern side of the overhead building bears the inscription “Jue’an” (觉岸), while the northern side has the inscription “Jinsheng” (金绳), both carved in April of the 10th year of the Daoguang reign (1831). The overhead building is a unique form of temple architecture in Beijing.
