Matoutan Site

The Matoutan Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hubei Province.

Matoutan Site

Located to the south of Matoutan Village, Sandian Subdistrict Office, Dongxihu District, Wuhan City, this is a Neolithic site. It covers an area of about 8,000 square meters, with a cultural layer 2–4 meters thick. Artifacts found here include stone axes, adzes, chisels, and pottery shards. The pottery is mainly clay red ware, with sand-tempered red ware as a secondary type, along with a small quantity of painted pottery. Decorative patterns include stamped impressions and cord marks, among others. Pottery forms include tripods, jars, bowls, and basins. The site belongs to the Qujialing Culture and Shijiahe Culture.
