Wuhan Art Museum

The former site of the Wuhan Art Museum, originally the Jincheng Bank building, is a four-story reinforced concrete structure designed by Zhuang Jun, one of China’s first-generation architects. Construction began in 1930 and was completed in 1931. Over the years, it has housed the Hankou branch of Jincheng Bank, the headquarters of the Japanese occupation forces in Hankou, the Wuhan Library, and the Wuhan Children’s Library. The current Wuhan Art Museum relocated here from the old Wuhan Exhibition Center. In 2005, the Wuhan municipal government invested nearly 200 million yuan in its renovation and expansion. While preserving the original architectural style, the new museum scientifically redesigned and upgraded its interior structure to meet the functional and facility requirements of an art museum. The overall layout features an atrium surrounded by corridors, making it one of Wuhan’s key cultural facilities.

The museum has a total floor area of 12,139 square meters, with seven exhibition halls covering approximately 4,230 square meters and a total display line of over 1,000 meters. All exhibition halls are equipped with sliding movable panels and walls, allowing for flexible arrangement and visually dynamic displays. Advanced professional lighting systems are used to enhance artworks and create an elegant artistic atmosphere. The museum also features modern automated management facilities, including central air conditioning, constant temperature and humidity control, 24/7 security, and fire monitoring systems. Additionally, there are functional areas such as training classrooms, restoration rooms, art salons, and galleries, supporting exhibition display, collection preservation, academic research, art education, art exchange, and social services.
