Wuhan Youth Palace was established in 1956, covering an area of 220,000 square meters with a total construction area of nearly 50,000 square meters. It is located in a bustling downtown area and enjoys very convenient transportation.

Wuhan Youth Palace is divided into front and rear zones. The front zone is the main building of the palace — the Arts Complex Building. The Arts Complex Building of Wuhan Youth Palace broke ground on June 1, 2003, and was completed on December 20, 2004. The Arts Complex Building covers an area of 32,000 square meters, with a construction area of 30,264 square meters (including the basement), has seven floors, and houses a 722-seat concert hall, 156 various teaching rooms (including 92 training classrooms for art, sports, and culture), as well as comprehensive venues such as a gymnastics hall, fitness center, table tennis hall, rehearsal rooms, and audio-visual rooms. It also includes an underground parking garage with 137 parking spaces and a surface parking lot with 40 spaces, accommodating up to 120,000 trainees annually. The 25 piano rooms, 3 instrumental music rooms, and 3 vocal music rooms are all equipped with soundproofing facilities. Sketch classrooms are designed with skylights to maximize the use of natural light. Young people and citizens can enjoy concerts and sports events here, as well as participate in training and activities related to arts, sports, and science. Facilities and areas such as a wired communication network, local area network, and over 800 resting chairs for parents provide more comprehensive services for the training and activities of youths and the general public.

The rear zone of Wuhan Youth Palace is a leisure and entertainment activity area. The rear zone has nearly 50,000 square meters of green space and wide, flat main roads. It mainly features sports activity areas such as a track-and-field football field, tennis courts, and basketball courts; a youth model boat base; a water recreation area — Water World; cultural sites such as the Lü Xisan Memorial, symbolizing youth moral education, and the Youth Greening Square; as well as the under-construction “Retracing the Long March” youth education and practice base. It also hosts institutions such as the Wuhan Youth Martial Arts and Literature School, the Wuhan Branch of the China Young Pioneers Art Troupe for Children Hand in Hand, and the Young Reporters Group. Currently, in line with the municipal Party committee and government’s directive to “build the city’s Youth Palace into a top-tier national facility,” relevant departments such as urban planning and landscape design are working intensively on the overall redesign and planning of the rear zone based on the principles of prioritizing landscaping, clear functional zoning, and reflecting the physical and mental characteristics of young people. Once the overall renovation is complete, the Youth Palace will present a brand-new look to youths and citizens alike and will further enhance Wuhan’s urban functionality.
