The Former Site of The Chungking Daily News Office is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

Located at No. 99 Shengli Street, Jiang’an District, Wuhan, it was built in 1924, designed by Griboff and constructed by Han Xiesheng Construction Company. The founder of The Chungking Daily News was John Gillespie, a British missionary and manager of the Hankou Holy Scripture Depot. The newspaper mainly covered news from various provinces in China. After the building was completed in 1924, Reuters had offices there. After the fall of Wuhan, The Chungking Daily News became the only English-language newspaper published in Hankou. The site covers a construction area of approximately 3,145 square meters and is an example of classical revival architecture. Originally a four-story above-ground and one-story underground reinforced concrete structure, an additional floor was later added above ground. The building’s exterior is dynamic, with a plain façade, simplified moldings, a columnar composition, and a finish of dressed granite. This former site incorporates Western architectural techniques and holds reference value for the study of modern architecture. At the same time, it is of high value for researching the history of The Chungking Daily News.
