Zhongshan Warship Museum

The Zhongshan Warship Museum is a patriotic education base and a national defense education base.

The Zhongshan Warship Museum was established in December 1999 and is located at the Hubei Shipyard on Baishazhou, Wuchang. It is a thematic memorial museum named after the Zhongshan Warship, a renowned vessel in China’s modern history. Designed with the concept of integrating the warship and the museum, the entire visiting area includes the core zone of the Zhongshan Warship Museum, the Wuhan Battle Memorial Park, Victory Square, and Peaceful Homeland.

The Zhongshan Warship is a renowned vessel named after Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great pioneer of China’s democratic revolution. It witnessed major historical events in modern Chinese history such as the Constitutional Protection Movement, Sun Yat-sen’s Guangzhou Incident, the Zhongshan Warship Incident, and the Defense of Wuhan. On October 24, 1938, it was sunk during an intense battle with Japanese aircraft in the Yangtze River near Jin Kou, Wuhan. On January 28, 1997, the warship was salvaged, and on February 19, it was transported to the Hubei Shipyard for restoration.

The Zhongshan Warship is currently the largest movable cultural relic in China. When it was salvaged, a total of 3,400 relics were recovered along with it, which have been exhibited in Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Hong Kong.

Closed on Mondays for maintenance (except holidays). Tuesday–Sunday: 9:00–17:00 (last entry at 16:00).

Free admission. Free guided tours are available twice daily at 10:00 AM and 2:50 PM (please check with the front desk for details). Paid guided services are offered at other times, with a fee of ¥100 per group of up to 50 people. Daily visitor limit is 3,000.

Sun Yat-sen (1866–1925), also known as Wen, with the courtesy name Zaizhi, literary names Risun and Yixian, childhood name Dixiang, alias Zhongshan Qiao, often used Zhongshan as his name.
