The Hongshan Cliff Inscriptions are a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

Hongshan Cliff Inscriptions

Located on Hongshan in Wuchang District, Wuhan City. In the first year of the Qingyuan era (1195), Zhao Chun, a military officer from Jingnan, built the Dongyan Pavilion on Hongshan. He carved his writings, "Ode to the Eastern Mountain" and "Record of the Dongyan Pavilion," onto the mountain rocks. He also lightly carved the natural shapes and color patterns of various rocks on the slope, naming them according to their appearances, such as “Cloud Root,” “Cloud Gate,” “Reclining Immortal,” “Flying Snow,” “Sunset Glow,” “Half-Sky,” “Clear and Solemn,” “Jade Screen,” “Cloud Pile,” and “Lion Peak.” These were then inscribed on the rocks in various calligraphic styles.
