Hubei University

Hubei University is located in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province and a central hub in China’s central region. It is a key provincial comprehensive university jointly established by the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. The university is also part of the national “Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China” and has been recognized as an “Outstanding Civilized Unit” in Hubei Province. The current Party Committee Secretary is Shang Gang, and the President is Zhao Lingyun.

[History]

In 1931, the predecessor of the university, the Hubei Provincial Institute of Education, was founded in Baojia’an, Wuchang. It underwent several name changes over the years, including the National Hubei Teachers College, Hubei Institute of Education, Hubei Teachers Training College, Hubei Normal Specialized School, Wuhan Normal Specialized School, and Wuhan Teachers College. In August 1984, it was renamed and restructured as Hubei University. In July 2013, the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education signed a document to jointly support Hubei University.

The university has three campuses — the main Wuchang Campus, Hankou Campus, and Yangluo Campus — as well as one university science and technology park, covering a total area of over 2,100 acres. The total floor space of campus buildings is 710,000 square meters, with total assets amounting to 2.512 billion yuan, including 1.21 billion yuan in fixed assets and nearly 300 million yuan worth of teaching and research equipment. The library covers an area of 47,300 square meters, houses 2.3563 million volumes of printed materials, 2.8925 million e-books, and provides access to 286 Chinese and foreign databases.
