Wuhan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park is a national defense education base.

Wuhan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park is located at Shimen Peak in Wuchang, and consists of the main entrance square of the memorial park, the Wuhan Defense War Memorial Wall, and the Heroes Square. In the long history of the Chinese nation, the Anti-Japanese War stands as a moving and heroic chapter. It was the most resolute and thorough war in China’s modern history to defend sovereignty and resist foreign aggression. During this long-term, large-scale resistance against foreign invasion, Wuhan once served as the provisional capital of the war effort, playing a pivotal role in galvanizing the people across the nation to stand up against Japanese aggression. Several grand memorial walls have now been erected to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Battle of Wuhan, inscribed with the names, hometowns, military ranks, unit designations, and locations of death of thousands of soldiers.

Wuhan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park was funded and built by Shimen Peak Memorial Park at its own expense. It is the only thematic memorial park in Wuhan dedicated to commemorating the Anti-Japanese War.

"Whether they were from the Kuomintang or the Communist Party, all martyrs who bravely gave their lives for our country and nation deserve to be forever remembered by future generations."

Hu Jintao, President of China, specifically mentioned the Battle of Wuhan in his speech marking the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War. He said: "The anti-Japanese forces led by the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China respectively undertook combat missions on the frontal and rear battlefields, forming a strategic posture of jointly resisting the Japanese invaders. The frontal battlefield, primarily composed of the Kuomintang army, organized a series of major battles, especially those in the early stages of the nationwide resistance such as the Battles of Shanghai, Xinkou, Xuzhou, and Wuhan, which dealt heavy blows to the Japanese army."

Both Bus No. 518 and Bus No. 25 can get you there (both depart from the city center). After getting off at the "Shimen Peak" stop, walk for about ten minutes to enter Shimen Peak Cemetery.
