Fenghuangzui Site

The Fenghuangzui Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Fenghuangzui Site is a Neolithic site located in Yanying Village, Longwang Town, Xiangyang District, Xiangfan City. It covers an area of approximately 225,000 square meters, with a cultural layer about 2.5 meters thick, containing a significant amount of fired earth. Ground surveys have collected stone axes, adzes, knives, pottery shards, and more. This site holds significant value for studying the history and culture of the Xiangfan region during this period.

The core area of the site spans 140,000 square meters, and including surrounding sites, the total area reaches 400,000 square meters. It is the largest and highest-ranking central settlement site discovered so far in the Nanyang Basin of northwestern Hubei, as well as an important Neolithic city site in the region. The Fenghuangzui Site was built during the Qujialing Culture to Shijiahe Culture periods, dating back approximately 4,300 to 5,000 years. It plays an important role in exploring and studying the origin and development of Chinese civilization.

In 2019, the Fenghuangzui Site was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Longwang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Xiangyang County. It was the Fifth District in 1948, part of Shiqiao Commune in 1958, and established as Longwang Town in 1987. Located in the northwest of the county, it covers an area of 104 square kilometers with a population of 37,000. Roads provide direct access to downtown Xiangfan and Henan Province. The town administers 23 village committees including Longxing, Yanying, Donglou, Zengchen, Xiewan, Huyan, Sijia, Houwang, Zhougang, Baiji, Qianwang, Sunmiao, Liuliuwan, Baiying, Liuguan, Wuma, Miaopo, Changgang, Wugang, Songshupo, Gongwan, Fuzhuang, and a horticultural farm, as well as one neighborhood committee, Longwang.
