Financial Street
Financial Street is Beijing’s first large-scale, comprehensively planned financial industry functional zone. Since its development began in 1992, it has received strong support from both the national government and the Beijing municipal authorities. In October 1993, the State Council approved the “Beijing Urban Master Plan (1991–2010),” which explicitly stated: “A national-level financial management center will be built between Fuchengmen and Fuxingmen along the West Second Ring Road, concentrating the headquarters of national banks and non-bank financial institutions.” The 2005 State Council-approved “Beijing Urban Master Plan (2004–2020)” once again affirmed Financial Street as the national financial management center. In 2008, the overall financial master plan further solidified Financial Street’s core position within the capital’s financial industry, proposing to develop it into the primary financial center of the capital.
