Yunxian Geological Park

Yunxian Geological Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The full name of Yunxian National Geological Park is "Yunxian Dinosaur Egg Fossil Cluster National Geological Park." It is the fourth batch of China's national geological parks approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2005.

Yunxian National Geological Park in Hubei Province is located in the Qinba Mountainous Area along the middle and upper reaches of the Han River. Leveraging the valuable geological heritage resources of the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Fossil Cluster, and integrating other geological heritage sites within the county, it has formed nine major scenic areas: the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Fossil Cluster Park, the Meizhen Peking Man Cave Geological Heritage Protection Site, the Longyin Gorge–Jiulong Waterfall Karst Cave and Canyon Cluster Park, the Huxiao Tan Karst Virgin Forest Grand Canyon Park, the Yungai Temple Turquoise Mine Site Park, the Ancheng Ancient Copper Mine Ruins Park, the Qingqu Yunxian Man Ruins Park, the Lijia Gou Dinosaur Fossil Geological Heritage Protection Site, and the Canglang Mountain–Hongyanbei Wudang Group Ecological Park.

Location

The main scenic area, the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Fossil Cluster Park, covers an area of 45 km². It stretches from Dengjiawan in Liupu in the east to Zhujia Gou in the west, from Luojiayan in the south to Hejiagou in the north. Its geographical coordinates are: 110°42′50″ to 110°44′10″ east longitude and 32°47′40″ to 32°49′40″ north latitude. In June 2001, it was approved as a national nature reserve by the State Council, and in August 2005, it was designated as a national geological park by the Ministry of Land and Resources.

Construction Projects

Based on the functional zoning outlined in the "Yunxian National Geological Park Master Plan" and the "Yunxian National Geological Park Qinglongshan Theme Scenic Area Regulatory Detailed Plan," the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Fossil Cluster Park is divided into four main zones: the Science Education and Tourism Zone, the Comprehensive Service Zone, the Sightseeing and Experience Zone, and the Ecological Protection Zone. Major construction projects include: the Yunxian National Geological Park Museum, the Theme Plaza, dinosaur sculptures, the Dinosaur Egg Fossil Exhibition Corridor, the Geological Park Monument, the Geological Landscape Wall, the Dinosaur Era Restaurant, the Swallow Nest Cluster, the Dinosaur Amusement Park, the Children’s Playground, the Office Management Center, the Visitor Reception Center, the Science Education Exhibition Center, and interactive experience programs such as the Dinosaur Summer Camp.

Progress and Other Information

In August 2007, the People's Government of Yunxian County signed a tourism development agreement for the Yunxian National Geological Park with Hong Kong Huamao Holdings Group Company, and established Hubei Huamao Tourism Development Co., Ltd. On December 5, 2007, a commercial investment of 5 million US dollars from Hubei Huamao Tourism Development Co., Ltd. was registered. The Yunxian National Geological Park showed promising development prospects. As of now, the park has completed the construction of infrastructure such as the Visitor Reception Center and core area protection facilities. Key hardware projects for the geological park, including the Yunyang Geological Museum and the Geological Park Monument, have also been put into use. On October 26, 2008, the Yunxian National Geological Park was officially inaugurated.
