Yunyang Square is located in the central area of the county town, on the site of the former No. 2 Reservoir. It covers a total area of 30,000 square meters, including 14,710 square meters of green space, 10,330 square meters of activity area, and 5,000 square meters for road traffic (including parking lots), with a total investment of 10 million yuan. It was the largest county-level square in the Shiyan region during the same period and also the first dedicated public square in our county for leisure and entertainment, known as the "city’s living room."

In early 1997, to address the issue of the No. 2 Reservoir becoming a foul-smelling pond and the lack of public activity spaces in the county town, our county began planning to reclaim the No. 2 Reservoir and construct a large-scale public square. Work on the sewage and drainage system started in January 1997 and was fully completed by June 1999, including 500 meters of main sewage culverts with a cross-section of 2 meters in height and 2 meters in width, and 260 meters of high-pressure cement pipes with a diameter of 1 meter. While constructing the drainage culverts, land reclamation began, initially using garbage and construction waste. To accelerate the progress of the square's construction, on June 21, 1999, the county Party committee and government launched a reclamation plan for the No. 2 Reservoir, initiating large-scale backfilling work. All sectors of society in the county actively donated funds and materials, contributing over 800,000 yuan in total. By September 20, all 280,000 cubic meters of earthwork had been fully backfilled.

The square is divided into a central activity area, a lawn leisure area, a hillside trail area, and a fountain display area, creating different functional spaces. Major facilities include an activity plaza, a musical fountain, a stele pavilion, as well as a sculpture of a hadrosaurid dinosaur and a three-figure sculpture symbolizing family affection and harmony. The musical fountain covers an area of 800 square meters and is located in the center of the activity plaza. It is a dry fountain, serving as an open-air dance floor on regular days and transforming into a musical fountain during holidays. The fountain features overlapping jets of water, with the central water column reaching up to 15 meters in height, surrounded by two tiers of circular water jets that fluctuate with the music. On the north side, there is a museum housing the fossilized skull of the "Yunyang Man," dinosaur egg fossils, and historical relics of Yunyang, reflecting the rich culture of Yunyang, the unique humanistic landscape of Yun County, as well as the hardworking, united, and diligent spirit of its people.
