Xizhimen Catholic Church, also known as the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and commonly referred to as the West Church, is one of Beijing’s Four Great Catholic Churches. Located at No. 130, Xizhimennei Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, it is the newest and smallest of the four, and the only one not established by Jesuit missionaries.

The interior of Xizhimen Catholic Church today features Gothic architecture and is relatively small in size. The exterior of the church building is covered with dense ivy, making the entire structure appear quite unassuming among the surrounding buildings. However, inside, the tall Corinthian columns and pointed arch windows give the church an impression of grandeur and elegance. The current northern wall of the church’s façade was added later, built against the original northern wall, and the Shrine of Our Lady has been placed inside the entrance, making it the only indoor shrine of Our Lady in Beijing.
