Changmiao City Site

The Changmiao City Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

The Changmiao City Site is located around Changmiao Village in Mazhai Town, Erqi District, approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Zhengzhou City. It is a city site dating back to the Warring States period. In the early years after liberation, the northern, eastern, and southern walls of the city still existed, with a base width of over 10 meters, a top width of 5 meters, and a height of about 4 meters. During the 1970s, parts of the city wall were destroyed, and now only a section of the eastern wall remains on the surface. Drilling surveys revealed that the northern wall was 344 meters long, with the western half of the foundation still present, 1 meter thick and 10–20 meters wide; the southern wall was 280 meters long, with the entire foundation intact, 1–3 meters thick and 40 meters wide; the eastern wall was 1,448 meters long, with a section of the upper wall remaining in the central-northern part and a section of the foundation in the southern part, 2–4 meters thick and 20 meters wide; the western wall was 1,264 meters long, with the foundations at both the northern and southern ends preserved, 2–4 meters thick and 20–40 meters wide.

The Changmiao City Site is divided into two parts: the pottery-making area and the city wall foundation. The central part of the site is Changmiao Village, and the southwestern corner is Xiatiange Village. Between the two villages, numerous pottery kilns and storage pits are exposed along the cliffs, along with thousands of inscribed pottery pieces from the Warring States period, marking it as the pottery-making area. The discovery of the Changmiao City Site provides valuable materials for the study of the history of the Zhengzhou region during the Warring States era.

Mazhai Town: Mazhai Town is under the jurisdiction of Erqi District, Zhengzhou City, located about 16 kilometers southwest of the urban area. It borders Rongyang City to the west, neighbors Xinmi City to the south, adjoins Zhongyuan District to the north, and faces Jiaogang Reservoir across the water to the east, bordering Houzhai Township of Erqi District. The town covers an area of 29.6 square kilometers, governs 13 administrative villages, 54 natural villages, and 76 villager groups, with a current population of 21,600. On December 26, 1998, the provincial government approved the revocation of Liuhutong Township and the establishment of Mazhai Town.
