Mashai Shenhe Site

The Mashai Shenhe Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Shenhe Site is situated on the hilltop in the southwest of Shenhe Village, Mazhai Town, Erqi District, Zhengzhou City. The site spans a broad area, features extensive coverage, thick cultural strata, and rich remains. A variety of cultural relics have been identified, including ash pits and cultural layers. The fill soil of the ash pits is grayish-brown, containing substantial amounts of red fired earth and pottery fragments among other cultural materials. Numerous red fired earth blocks and pottery shards have been found on the surface of the site, with pottery colors including brown, red, and gray, as well as polychrome pottery. The Shenhe Site is an important Neolithic site discovered in the hilly region southwest of Zhengzhou, holding significant value and meaning for the study of Yangshao culture settlement patterns and defensive structures.

Mazhai Town: Mazhai Town is under the jurisdiction of Erqi District, Zhengzhou City, located 16 kilometers southwest of the urban area. It borders Rongyang City to the west, neighbors Xinmi City to the south, and adjoins Zhongyuan District to the north. To the east, it faces Jianshan Reservoir across the water from Erqi Houzhai Township. The town covers an area of 29.6 square kilometers, governs 13 administrative villages, 54 natural villages, and 76 villager groups, with a current population of 21,600. On December 26, 1998, it was officially approved by the provincial government to establish Mazhai Town by revoking Liuhutong Township.
