Zhanghe Site

The Zhanghe Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Zhanghe Site is situated in the low mountainous and hilly area of the southwestern suburbs of Zhengzhou, in the northeastern extension of the Songshan Mountain range. The terrain is higher in the west and lower in the east, and was later leveled to form terraced fields. A large number of red-fired clay blocks were found in the northeastern part of the site, while ash pits and cultural layers were discovered on the southeastern cliff of the site. The exposed cultural remains at the site are abundant, with a large number of pottery shards collected. The pottery includes both sandy-clay pottery and fine clay pottery, with colors such as red, reddish-brown, and gray. The decorative patterns include cord marks, string patterns, basket weaves, checkered designs, plain surfaces, and painted pottery. The vessel types include wide-mouthed zun, li tripods, bowls, and flat-bottomed jars. According to the survey, the cultural remains in the eastern part of the site are from an earlier period, while those further west are from later periods.

Mazhai Town: Mazhai Town is under the jurisdiction of Erqi District, Zhengzhou City, located 16 kilometers southwest of the urban area. It borders Rongyang City to the west, neighbors Xinmi City to the south, adjoins Zhongyuan District to the north, and faces Jiaogang Reservoir across the water from Houzhai Township of Erqi District to the east. The town covers an area of 29.6 square kilometers, governs 13 administrative villages, 54 natural villages, and 76 villager groups, with a current population of 21,600. On December 26, 1998, it was officially approved by the provincial government to be restructured from Liuhutong Township into Mazhai Town.
