The Former Site of Chairman Mao’s Inspection of the Yellow River is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Former Site of Chairman Mao’s Inspection of the Yellow River is located in Huangheqiao Village on the southern bank of the Yellow River in Guxing Town, Huiji District, Zhengzhou City, on Xiaoding Mountain in the southeastern part of the Zhengzhou Yellow River Scenic Area. Xiaoding Mountain is situated 24 kilometers northwest of Zhengzhou City on the southern bank of the Yellow River. It is a small earthen hill peak east of the Yellow River Scenic Area, also known as “Yue Mountain,” standing about 100 meters high. The summit is flat, offering a view northward toward the Yellow River and the railway bridge. On October 29, 1952, Mao Zedong, accompanied by Luo Ruiqing, Yang Shangkun, and others, traveled from Xuzhou to Lanfeng (now Lancao). Together with Zhang Xi, the First Secretary of the Henan Provincial Committee, Governor Wu Zhipu, Commander Chen Zaidao of the Provincial Military Region, and Wang Huayun, Director of the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, he inspected the Yellow River in various locations including Xugongzhuang, the East Dam of Lanfeng, and Liuyuankou in Kaifeng. On the morning of October 31, Comrade Mao Zedong climbed this mountain to overlook the Yellow River and inquired in detail about the conditions of the river here. In accordance with Chairman Mao’s instruction to “do a good job managing the Yellow River,” the people of Henan have continuously worked to harness the river. This former site is where Mao Zedong climbed Xiaoding Mountain and sat on the summit gazing at the Yellow River. Today, a bronze seated statue of Mao Zedong has been erected there.
