The Li Family Residence in Guxing

The Li Family Residence in Guxing is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Li Family Residence is located on the foothills of the Mangshan Mountain range in the northwest of Zhengzhou, within the town of Guxing. The Li family had served as officials for generations. Originally, the residence covered an area approximately 70 meters from north to south and 30 meters from east to west. Part of it was later demolished, but the remaining sections are well preserved. The preserved structures include the main house, as well as the eastern and western wing rooms. The main house is 15.5 meters long from east to west and 5.8 meters wide, consisting of a five-bay, three-story building. The ground floor serves as a basement, featuring a flush gable roof with carved floral patterns along the main ridge and double-layered decorative ridges. The roof is covered with small flat tiles, and the gable ends are adorned with finely carved brick designs of peony flowers, created using the relief carving technique. The central bay of the lower floor has a stone-paved doorway, including bluestone door sills, thresholds, and columns, with a round arched door lintel carved with cloud and sun-moon motifs above and mountain-flower designs below. The side bays feature brick-carved lattice windows, while the upper floor has small arched windows. Both the eastern and western wing rooms are built in a flush gable style, with gray flat tiles covering the roofs. Three of the eastern wing rooms, all three-bay structures, remain in place from north to south. The rooms at both the northern and southern ends are two-story buildings, each 10.5 meters long and 5.1 meters wide, with the entrance in the center. The middle room is 10.5 meters long and 3.8 meters wide, a single-story structure that shares its southern wall with the adjacent northern room of the eastern wing. Two small doors are located in front and back, next to this shared wall. The western wing rooms are similar to the eastern ones, but the southern room no longer exists, while one room in the middle remains.
