Shao Piaoping’s Former Residence – Shouldering Righteousness with Iron Shoulders
Shao Piaoping’s former residence is a two-story building that blends Chinese and Western architectural styles. On both sides of the entrance are typical European-style stone pillars, and above the doorway is an observation balcony. This site serves both as Shao Piaoping’s former home and the former location of the Jing Bao Newspaper Office. The three large characters “Jing Bao Newspaper Office” above the main entrance were personally inscribed by Shao Piaoping himself back in the day. Legend has it that Shao Piaoping lived on the northern side of the second floor. He gave the sunlit rooms to ordinary people. It was here that Shao Piaoping made the vow “to make the government heed the will of the righteous public,” and became a renowned journalist known for his “iron shoulders and bold pen.”
