Introduction:

Located southwest of Guoji Village, Jiangguanchi Township, about 14 kilometers southeast of Xuchang City, several grayish-blue halls are nestled among lush pines and cypresses, creating a natural, harmonious, serene, and tranquil atmosphere. Because the temple is built on a high mound that looks like a mountain from afar, and there is also a tall structure inside, people commonly call it the “High Temple.” The temple was originally built as a family temple for the Cao family by Cao Cao. In the fourth month of the sixth year of the Taihe era (232 AD) during the reign of Emperor Ming of Wei, Cao Rui, he visited Xuchang and paid homage at the temple. He then renamed the “Cao Family Temple” to the “Temple of Emperor Wen” in honor of Cao Pi, the founding emperor. Over the following one thousand two or three hundred years, through the Jin dynasties, Sui, Tang, and up to the Song dynasty, the Temple of Emperor Wen underwent several renovations. The scale of its halls grew larger, and the incense grew ever more vibrant, making it a quite renowned “Imperial Temple” in Xuchang. The temple complex covers an area of about ten acres, featuring a mountain gate at the front, a main hall in the center, and east and west side halls. With a long history, it is one of the earlier Temples of Emperor Wen in the province.
