Bianjing Lanterns Zhang Folk Art Museum

Located at Courtyard 38, Lishi Ting Street, Shunhe Hui District, this is a privately-run museum established based on the national intangible cultural heritage project — the lantern-making techniques of Bianjing Lanterns Zhang. The museum displays over 200 traditional Central Plains–style lanterns, exhibits more than 100 objects related to lantern-making, and showcases over 100 pieces of related folk handicrafts.

Bianjing Lanterns Zhang, also known as Bianliang Lanterns Zhang, is a renowned lantern-making family that has resided in Kaifeng for generations, with a heritage spanning seven generations. Since the establishment of the Bianjing Lanterns Zhang Folk Art Museum, internship bases have been jointly set up with universities such as Henan University, Henan University of Technology, Henan Agricultural University, and Kaifeng University. The museum is also open to the public free of charge, has a dedicated telephone hotline for lantern culture, and arranges special guided tours for groups, with demonstrations and explanations provided by the inheritors themselves. The Bianjing Lanterns Zhang Folk Art Museum has become an important platform and window for promoting traditional Chinese lantern culture and showcasing the lantern-making craftsmanship of Bianjing Lanterns Zhang.
