Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture of the Great Song Dynasty

The Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture of the Great Song Dynasty is a comprehensive museum that integrates elements such as acupuncture copper figures from the Northern Song Dynasty, the Huimin Heji Pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine instruments, historical sites related to TCM, exhibitions on renowned TCM practitioners, and academic resources on TCM culture. The first phase of the project was completed in March 2013, and the second phase was finished in October 2014. On September 18, 2015, the museum was officially designated as a “National Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Education and Promotion Base” by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The museum covers a construction area of 1,800 m², with an exhibition area of approximately 980 m². The exhibition halls are organized along the main theme of the formation and development of the rich TCM culture from the Northern Song Dynasty to the present, divided into six major sections: Imperial Institutions Dedicated to Medicine, Acupuncture Achievements Unparalleled in History, Compilation of Prescriptions for the Benefit of the People, Categorization of Diseases with Inheritance and Innovation, Cultural Prosperity and Rise of Confucian Physicians, and Continuation and Innovation for Continued Glory. Additionally, the museum features special displays such as the Gallery of Famous Physicians of the Song Dynasty and a cultural wall showcasing acupuncture copper figures. The exhibition hall boasts a rich collection, including 27 cultural display panels, 12 medicinal preparation tools, over 60 types of thread-bound medical texts from the Song Dynasty, more than 100 volumes of TCM publications, 32 preserved plant specimens, 9 types of Chinese herbal specimens, over 30 varieties of various prepared Chinese herbal slices, over 20 types of patent Chinese medicines, dozens of animal-based Chinese medicine specimens, and 7 dioramas depicting real-life scenes of pharmaceutical production and medical consultations during the Song Dynasty.

The Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture of the Great Song Dynasty is dedicated to promoting TCM culture and popularizing TCM knowledge. It reflects significant historical facts and major achievements in the development of TCM over the centuries, reviving the splendid history of TCM during the Great Song Dynasty. With an elegant, innovative, and grand style, the museum showcases the brilliance of TCM culture from the Song Dynasty. The establishment of the museum plays an important role in TCM scientific research and teaching, popularizing TCM knowledge, spreading TCM culture, promoting international exchanges, enhancing the influence of Kaifeng, and accelerating the rapid development of TCM endeavors in Kaifeng. It holds profound historical significance and important practical value.
