Tomb of Meng Chang
The Tomb of Meng Chang is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.
The Tomb of Meng Chang is the burial site of Meng Chang, the last emperor of the Later Shu during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. The tomb is located in Damenchang Village, Wanlong Township, Xiangfu District, Kaifeng City, Henan Province. The tomb is shaped like a large circular earthen mound and is close to Zhuxian Town, making it one of the famous "Eight Scenic Spots of Zhuxian."
Today, Damenchang Village still houses an ancient stele, erected in the seventh year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, which corresponds to the year 1857. It was inscribed by the magistrate of Tongxu County. The inscription roughly states: This place is near Kaifeng and is the burial site of Meng Chang, the surrendered ruler of Shu from the Zhao-Song era. The Song people built Xingguo Temple right next to Meng Chang’s tomb to suppress his imperial aura. Xingguo Temple was constructed to the east of Meng Chang’s tomb and was renovated during the Ming Dynasty but no longer exists. According to locals, in recent years, villagers digging for soil near the tomb site unearthed a large number of blue bricks, as well as exquisite relics such as vases and porcelain jars.
