Zhangjiakou's Xitai Mountain is an extension of the Yin Mountains, with an altitude of over a thousand meters. The mountain features deep valleys, lush vegetation, and embodies grandeur, ruggedness, and beauty all in one — a green jewel embedded in this ancient frontier city. Since 2003, Zhangjiakou has invested over 40 million yuan to add greenery and color to Xiaobai Mountain, West Mountain, and Xitai Mountain, providing residents with more leisure spaces.

The Xitai Mountain scenic area is located in the northern suburbs of Zhangjiakou city, covering a total area of 6,359 mu. Since the implementation of the "Greening and Beautification" project, in addition to the original 201,160 trees and vegetation, more than 70,000 new trees have been planted, mainly evergreens with flowering shrubs interspersed. The area features steep mountain ridges, majestic peaks, elegant pavilions, and winding paths leading to serene spots. In winter, silver snow blankets the green pines; in summer, fragrant blossoms waft through the blue sky.

The Chaoyang Pavilion stands against the mountain and offers views of the sunrise in all four seasons; the Lansheng Pavilion leads directly to the northern frontier pass of Da Jing Men, presenting a panoramic view of the entire city; the Wen Yue Pavilion sits atop the mountain range, and legend has it that standing at its peak allows one to converse with the immortals on the moon. A 6.3-kilometer-long walking path winds along the remnants of the ancient Great Wall, ascending all the way to the Shuimu Palace. The marble stele forest is inscribed with the visitation times and backgrounds of 36 emperors, celebrities, and great figures who have climbed Xitai Mountain and Da Jing Men since the 16th century. There is also a merit stele commemorating the "Greening and Beautification" project, as well as ten other scenic spots including Tongxin Valley, Taiping Square, Cypress Garden, and Jingyi Platform. Xitai Mountain is truly the finest among the mountains and a pearl beyond the frontier — a must-visit destination for travelers.
