Jiaozuo City Museum

Established in April 1965, Jiaozuo City Museum had its name inscribed by Mr. Guo Moruo as “Jiaozuo City Museum and Exhibition Hall” in July of the same year. The original site was located within Jiaozuo People's Park, covering an area of 2,275 square meters, with exhibition rooms spanning only 403 square meters—far from meeting the growing needs of museum development. In 1996, a new museum building funded by over 10 million RMB from the national government was completed at the current location, transforming the outdated facilities of the former museum. The new museum is situated on the east side of Wanfang Overpass on Jianshe Middle Road, featuring a modern white architectural complex that covers an area of 24,325 square meters with a floor space of 10,500 square meters. The museum’s permanent exhibitions include the “Jiaozuo Reform and Opening-Up Achievements Exhibition” and the “Historical Stone Carving Art Exhibition,” among others.

The permanent exhibition “Jiaozuo Reform and Opening-Up Achievements Exhibition” is located on the first floor of the main exhibition hall. The exhibit area spans nearly 1,000 square meters, with an exhibition line of 110 meters, showcasing over 400 photos and physical objects. The exhibition is divided into nine sections: 1. “Visits by Party and State Leaders to Jiaozuo”; 2. “Evolution of Jiaozuo’s Administrative Divisions”; 3. “Unique Economic and Geographic Advantages”; 4. “Overall Level of Economic and Social Development”; 5. “Ideological Development of the Party”; 6. “Urban Construction”; 7. “Well-Off Village Construction”; 8. “Views of Jiaozuo by Domestic and Foreign Journalists”; 9. “Scenes from Counties (Cities) and Districts.” The entire exhibition presents a comprehensive and systematic overview of the vigorous development and remarkable achievements made by Jiaozuo since its establishment as a city, especially since the reform and opening-up, across various sectors such as industry, agriculture, science and technology, urban construction, and spiritual civilization. At the center of the exhibition hall is the largest sand table model in the province—the Complete View of Jiaozuo. Covering an area of over 60 square meters, the sand table displays the topography, landforms, and administrative divisions of Jiaozuo at a horizontal scale of 1:20,000. It is equipped with an electrical control system that highlights the locations of various industries and major construction projects in Jiaozuo, such as the Yellow River Highway Bridge, the Jiaozuo–Zhengzhou Expressway, and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
