In recent years, the Taiwanese government has been actively promoting tourism to Japan, and this month has stepped up promotional efforts in the Kansai region by launching a marketing campaign featuring a newly decorated train with a full exterior and interior color scheme for the first time. The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Japan’s Sanyo Electric Railway Co., Ltd. have collaborated on the first-ever “Meet Colors！Taiwan Train,” which officially launched in Japan on June 5 this year for a one-year period.

As part of the new appeal promotion plan driven by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation, the concept of “Discovering Colorful Taiwan” was used to specially create the “Meet Colors！Taiwan Train” sightseeing painted train, inviting Japanese travelers to explore and find their favorite aspects of Taiwan by visiting in person.
The Meet Colors！Taiwan Train showcases Taiwan’s diverse travel appeal—including its cuisine, shopping, wellness experiences, and romance—through painted designs on the exterior of the train and interior door panels.
This collaboration coincides with the 110th anniversary of Sanyo Electric Railway, as well as an exchange and cooperation program between Sanyo Electric Railway and Taiwan Railways on railway sightseeing rail passes. Taiwan’s rich and varied travel highlights—its food, shopping, wellness experiences, and romantic charm—are artistically applied to the exterior and interior of the train, so that all passengers in Japan who board the painted train feel as if they are in Taiwan, experiencing its vibrant tourism appeal up close.

The “Meet Colors！Taiwan Train” sightseeing painted train also features Taiwanese tourism promotional posters inside the carriages. The train runs between Osaka and Yodogawa, making regular stops at key stations in the Kansai area. The train carries a variety of travelers including tourists, families, couples, and businesspeople, traveling back and forth daily. It is estimated that around 100,000 people will see the painted train each month.
