As the peak summer travel season arrives, to protect the rights and interests of travelers, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation has announced the operational status of travel agencies from January 10, 2017 to June 23, 2017, in accordance with Article 43 of the Development of Tourism Act. A list of travel agencies that require attention and should be avoided is provided for consumer reference, to help avoid disputes over travel products and itineraries that may affect or even harm their rights and interests.
Summer is the peak travel season, with many travel agencies offering a variety of itineraries and promotions. Careful selection is advised.
I. Four travel agencies whose licenses have been revoked:
(1) Xinwang’ai (Taipei City, expelled by the Travel Quality Assurance Association of the Republic of China [hereinafter referred to as the QA Association], failed to replenish the security deposit)
(2) Die Lian Hua (Taipei City, engaged in business beyond the approved scope, and provided travel services that significantly harmed the life, body, or property of travelers)
(3) Huatai (Kaohsiung City, expelled by the QA Association, failed to replenish the security deposit)
(4) Jinyun (Taipei City, the company has been suspended for more than six months without reporting)
II. Sixteen travel agencies that have applied for dissolution: Conpon (Taipei City), Excellence (Taipei City), Orange Yi (Taipei City), Shangbo International (Taipei City), Anjiang International (Taipei City), Yongfa (Taipei City), Juhang (Taipei City), Wanhua International (Taipei City), Senhui (Taipei City), National International (Taipei City), Laifu International (Taipei City), Dongxu (New Taipei City), Yousong International (Taoyuan City), Yichang (Taoyuan City), Liming (Taoyuan City), JINJIN (Kaohsiung City).
III. Seven travel agencies that have not purchased performance bond insurance: Ziyowang (Taipei City), Shengyun International (Taipei City), Juxing (Taipei City), Xiangtai (Taipei City), Zhijian (Taoyuan City), Taicheng (Taichung City), Meijianan (Kinmen County).
IV. Two travel agencies ordered to cease operations:
(1) Lianhua (Taipei City, financial difficulties pose a risk of harming consumer property)
(2) Yuanding (Kaohsiung City, financial difficulties pose a risk of harming consumer property)
V. Nine travel agencies that have voluntarily applied for temporary suspension of business (these agencies must apply for resumption after the suspension period ends): Yaxiang (suspended until 2018/1/19, Taipei City), Meizhao (suspended until 2018/2/14, Taipei City), Mingliang (suspended until 2018/3/24, Taipei City), Shengfeng (suspended until 2018/5/4, Taichung City), Yalv International (suspended until 2018/5/31, Taipei City), Junjing (suspended until 2018/6/5, Taipei City), Jialong (suspended until 2018/6/9, Kaohsiung City), Tengda (suspended until 2018/6/12, Kaohsiung City), Yuanguan International (suspended until 2018/6/20, Lienchiang County).
The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation reminds travelers to pay attention to the following when participating in travel activities organized by travel agencies or purchasing international flight tickets:
I. When joining a tour group, it is safer to choose a legitimate travel agency with a valid license to sign a travel contract, and to confirm that the person handling the booking is a qualified travel industry professional. Information on legitimate travel agencies, travel agency professionals, certified tour leaders and guides, precautions for joining tour groups, and the aforementioned list of flagged agencies can be found in the Consumer Protection section of the bureau’s Administrative Information Network.
