Jiaozuo Taiji Sports Center

The Jiaozuo Taiji Sports Center is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Taiji Sports Center is bordered by Jiaozuo University and Jiaozuo Teachers College to the north, and adjacent to Jiaozuo No. 1 High School and Henan Polytechnic University to the south, situated in the city's educational and cultural hub. It is currently the only sports complex in China themed around Taiji culture. The center covers an area of 866 acres with a built-up area of 137,000 square meters, designed according to the concept of “modern, ecological, harmonious, and sustainable.” Its main facilities include a gymnasium, fitness center, swimming pool, stadium, Taiji Square, and supporting outdoor projects. It meets the needs of Taiji culture exchange, sports development, and boosting the tertiary industry.

The stadium is the largest single structure in the complex, with a total floor area of 48,000 square meters, four floors, and a height of 50.4 meters, accommodating 36,000 spectators.

The gymnasium has a total floor area of about 30,000 square meters, three floors, and a height of 29.6 meters. Its main arena can seat 8,000 spectators, and the entire venue is multi-purpose. The southern part of the gymnasium serves as the competition arena, while the northern section houses the Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall of Taiji Quan and a sports-themed exhibition hall.

The Taiji Quan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall within the gymnasium is China’s first national-level exhibition space dedicated to showcasing the heritage of Taiji Quan. It comprehensively displays the origin, inheritance, and development of Taiji Quan, setting a unique example in the construction of intangible cultural heritage exhibition venues.

The fitness center has a total floor area of 25,000 square meters and is the main venue for public fitness. It includes four wooden basketball courts, twelve badminton courts, table tennis rooms, wrestling and judo rooms, martial arts rooms, aerobics rooms, and more.

The swimming pool has a total floor area of 23,000 square meters and is divided into five areas: a standard competition pool, a standard training pool, a children’s practice pool, and a children’s play pool. It can accommodate 1,500 spectators and is suitable for hosting international individual events.

Taiji Square has a diameter of 300 meters and can host tens of thousands of people performing Taiji simultaneously, with a giant Taiji diagram at its center. The theme sculpture “The Charm of Taiji” is inspired by the image of Taiji pushing hands, creating a highly visual impact.

Taiji Garden is a pilot project for the sponge city construction concept. Located in the southeastern part of the park, it covers an area of 16,000 square meters. Based on the philosophy of “harmony, health, and sharing,” it features landscape designs such as garden vignettes, a wall of cultural figures in Taiji Quan, practice platforms for the six major styles, Taiji stone carvings, and a Taiji-planted forest, creating a unique cultural atmosphere at the birthplace of Taiji Quan. It promotes green development and builds a beautiful Jiaozuo, providing high-quality supporting facilities for the “One Event, One Festival,” showcasing the city’s positive image. It also enhances the space for Taiji cultural exchanges, supports the development of “World Taiji City, Central Plains Wellness Destination,” and builds the cultural brand of “Taiji Quan.”

The Parent-Child Fitness Park is a free recreational fitness area specially designed for children. It includes large-scale children’s amusement equipment, kids’ basketball hoops, swings, seesaws, child rocking toys, spinning play structures, magic houses, balance beams, benches, as well as children’s basketball and soccer courts and other supporting facilities. Covering an area of over 4,600 square meters with an investment of about 2.3 million yuan, it was completed in November 2018 to serve children aged 3–14 and teenagers for exercise and play.

As an A-level scenic spot, the Taiji Sports Center conducted a self-assessment based on the eight major categories in the “Service Quality and Environmental Quality Evaluation Criteria”: tourism transportation, sightseeing, tourism safety, sanitation, postal and telecommunications services, tourism shopping, comprehensive management, and resource and environmental protection. These were further refined into 48 specific items for targeted improvement. Enhancements included the center’s signage system, promotional materials, cultural and creative products, postal and telecom services, staff uniforms, trash bin replacements, and upgrades to third restrooms, with a total investment of over 400,000 yuan. Both hardware facilities and software services have been upgraded to higher standards.
