The History of the Jin Dynasty records: “Fuzhou (administered from Zhangbei) has a Mount Madage, which was renamed Hutubai Mountain in the 29th year of the Dading era. It has an Ice Well… Emperor Zhangzong (whose childhood name was Madage) was born here. Emperor Shizong loved this mountain for its gentle slopes and pure air, and ordered Emperor Zhangzong to name it. In the fourth year of the Mingchang era, the mountain god was conferred the title of Auspicious Holy Duke…” The Republican-era Zhangbei County Annals state that Mount Madagege refers to this mountain.
