During the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties, emperors and empresses of all three dynasties frequently came here for hunting. In the sixth year of the Chongxi era (1037), Emperor Xingzong of Liao led his ministers to “hunt on Ye Hu Ling in the fourth lunar month of summer. In the intercalary month, they hunted on the western mountains of Longmen County (today’s Yeji Mountain at the border between Chicheng and Chongli counties).” Traveling along the damhead from west to east, Emperor Xingzong must have stopped to admire the view and would not have missed this natural wonder.
