Wangjiazhong Ruins

The Wangjiazhong Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

Located in Wangdatang Village, Xiongzhai Town, 12 kilometers west of Zhengyang County, the ruins are irregularly circular in shape, stretching 200 meters from east to west and 160 meters from north to south, covering an area of 32,000 square meters. The highest point reaches 6 meters, with slight slopes on the northern and southern sides, and a high east-west ridge forming in the center. In the northeastern part of the ruins, there is a large area of red-fired soil, measuring 80 meters in length and 72 meters in width, covering an area of 5,760 square meters.

The site is currently used as farmland. After plowing and heavy rainfall, remnants of pottery fragments are scattered everywhere, appearing in red, gray, black, and other colors. Sand-tempered white pottery shards and bronze arrowheads can also be occasionally found. The collected samples mainly consist of stone and pottery artifacts. Stone tools include stone axes, granite tongue-shaped axes, stone adzes, quartz stone chisels, flint chisels, stone arrowheads, gray stone willow-leaf arrowheads, and stone rings. Pottery items include tripods, divided into three types: the first type has sand-tempered yellow pottery flat tripod legs, the second type has yellow pottery conical tripod legs, and the third type has gray pottery cauldron-shaped tripod legs. Pottery bowls are divided into two types: the first type is a high-ring-footed black pottery bowl (base fragment), and the second type is a wheel-made gray pottery bowl (base fragment). Other items include red pottery coarse-rope-patterned round-bottomed jars, red pottery sand-tempered li-legs, red pottery cup-shaped vessels, gray pottery clarifiers, painted pottery spinning whorls, and white pottery paddle fragments. Additionally, bronze arrowheads and animal teeth have also been found.

The Wangjiazhong Ruins belong to the Qujialing culture, mainly consisting of remains from the Henan Longshan culture. The site is rich in cultural content and provides physical evidence for the study of ancient human life, habitation, and settlements in the Huai River basin.
