Stele of Lu Zhengtang

The Stele of Lu Zhengtang in Yancheng County is located on the grounds of Guoqiao School in Liji Township, Yancheng District, Luohe City, Henan Province. The stele stands 1.70 meters tall, is 0.63 meters wide, and 0.10 meters thick. It is made of bluestone and was erected in December of the 30th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1850 AD). The inscription consists of a series of official legal provisions formulated in response to problems in local private transactions of farmland, houses, and land, including household registration and taxation. These provisions clarify the rights and obligations of production agencies and property owners, strictly prohibit concealing contracts and evading taxes, as well as overcharging fees, thereby protecting the interests of the public and warning those who might break the rules. This provides important historical material for studying the changes in land transactions during the Qing Dynasty and the development of land trade in the mid-to-late Qing period. It is also of great significance for researching the socio-economic conditions of the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty. The stele body was once discarded and placed beside a village road. Due to natural and human factors, parts of it suffered from weathering, erosion, and cracking. In 2009, the Luohe City Cultural Bureau invited experts to carry out technical treatments and built a protective shelter for it.
