Former Residences of Zhao Yiping and Zhao Xiaozhou

The former residences of Zhao Yiping and Zhao Xiaozhou are designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province.

The former residences of Zhao Yiping and Zhao Xiaozhou are located on the north side of Dongjie Road, Chengguan Town, Yancheng District, Luohe City, Henan Province. Zhao Yiping and Zhao Xiaozhou were brothers, with Zhao Yiping being the elder. Zhao Yiping (1910.7–1939.3), originally named Zhao Lianyue, was born into a family of teachers in Yancheng County. In 1925, introduced by Peng Xuefeng, he joined the Communist Youth League of China in Beijing, and in the spring of 1927, he joined the Communist Party of China. He was engaged in peasant movements, underground work, and military affairs in Henan, Shaanxi, and Shandong, making effective contributions to the development of the anti-Japanese united front, the establishment of revolutionary bases, and the conduct of armed struggle. He successively held positions such as Minister of the Political Department of the Northwest Shandong Special Committee, Secretary-General of the Political Training Office of the Sixth Commissioner's Office, and member of the Party Committee of the Northwest Shandong Region. On March 5, 1939, he was killed by the Japanese army at Liuli Temple in Chiping County at the age of 29.

In the spring of 1927, Zhao Yiping organized a Cultural Promotion Association at his former residence. To evade enemy pursuit, he hid under a staircase that could only fit one person, covered by a reed mat, and engraved party documents and leaflets under the light of an oil lamp.

Zhao Xiaozhou (1916–2007), from Dongda Street in Chengguan Town, was a member of the Communist Party of China. He served as the head of the training team of the 10th Detachment of Fan Zhuxian’s forces in Northwest Shandong, Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Fan Zhuxian Column of the Eighth Route Army, Operations Section Chief and Captain of the 5th Battalion, Commander of the 3rd Regiment of the Vanguard Column of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army, Company Commander of the 24th Regiment and Chief of Staff of the 22nd Regiment of the New 8th Brigade, Operations Section Chief of the Headquarters of the Jinan South Military District, Operations Section Chief of the Headquarters of the Pingyuan Military District, Chief of Staff of the 4th Brigade of the 2nd Column of the Jin-Ji-Lu-Yu Military District, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 10th Army of the 2nd Field Army, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Nan Military District, Chief of Staff, President of the First Naval Aviation School of the People's Liberation Army, Head of the Naval Technical Department, Deputy Chief of Staff and Head of the Technical Department of the Navy, Deputy Director of the Third Naval Research Institute, Head of the Naval Armored Technology Department, and Advisor to the Naval Aviation Department. He was promoted to Major General in 1961.

The residence consists of three main rooms and two side rooms, with the overall structure being brick and tile (outer brick, inner adobe walls). Built in the early Republic of China period, it served as the place where Zhao Yiping studied and engaged in revolutionary activities. The residence is currently unmanaged and in disrepair, with roof leaks caused by years of neglect, multiple loose and cracked walls, adobe erosion and peeling, and rotting wooden components, posing an imminent risk of collapse. Residents on the east and north sides have to pass through a small alley on the east side of the residence, creating certain safety hazards. The residence is surrounded by residential buildings, with a small alley about 20 meters long on the east side leading south to the main urban road—Dongjie.

In June 2008, the former residences of Zhao Yiping and Zhao Xiaozhou were announced by the municipal government as part of the first batch of key cultural relic protection units in Luohe City.

Zhao Yiping was born in 1910 in Yancheng County, Henan Province. In 1925, introduced by Peng Xuefeng, he joined the Communist Youth League of China, and in 1926, he became a member of the Communist Party of China. Afterward, he taught at a civilian school in his hometown of Yancheng, developed party members, established party organizations, founded a peasants' association, and carried out peasant movements. After the failure of the Great Revolution, he engaged in underground party work in Shaanxi, Shandong, and Henan under the cover of being a primary and secondary school teacher. Zhao Xiaozhou, also known as Zhao Lianbo and using the alias Zhao Chiyang, was born in 1916 in Dongda Street, Chengguan, Yancheng County (now Yancheng District), Henan Province. He joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1929 and the Communist Party of China in 1931. In 1934, he taught at a primary school founded by the Yancheng County Communist Party organization. In 1935, under party instructions, he enlisted in the Nationalist army to carry out party work. In 1937, he was assigned to the armed work team of the Northwest Shandong Special Committee as a member of the National Salvation Vanguard, assisting Fan Zhuxian’s Sixth District forces in Shandong in conducting guerrilla warfare, and participated in the battle at Jiebivillage, Liulin Town, under the command of Fan Zhuxian... Haibo Road Community: The jurisdiction of the Haibo Road Neighborhood Committee in Chengguan Town is located west of Taihangshan Road, south of Haibo Road, north of Huanghe Road, and east of Jinggangshan Road, covering an area of 70 hectares, with 2,870 households and a total population of 8,850 (including 500 Hui people).
