Peicheng Ruins

The Peicheng Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Henan Province.

The Peicheng Ruins are located on a southwestern hill in Peicheng Village, Peicheng Town, approximately 25 kilometers west of Yancheng District, Luohe City, Henan Province. Stretching 500 meters from north to south and 300 meters from east to west, the site covers a total area of 150,000 square meters, making it the largest ancient cultural site in the region.

The ruins are rich in cultural content, with pottery fragments such as dou (tripods), hu (jars), guan (vessels), zun (wine vessels), and more visible on the exposed sections of the site. Notably, a wide distribution of architectural remnants such as roof tiles and plain tiles is found across the entire site. Based on a comprehensive analysis of artifact samples, the Peicheng Ruins are believed to be from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. They offer significant reference value regarding the architectural layout, structural design, as well as the production, daily life, and social relations of the time. In June 2006, the site was designated and announced by the Henan Provincial People's Government as part of the fourth batch of key cultural relics protection units. Protected Area Scope: Core Protection Zone: A 30-meter buffer zone extending outward from the northern, eastern, and southern exposed sections of the ruins, and from the western irrigation canal. Construction Control Zone: A 50-meter buffer zone extending outward from the boundary of the core protection zone.

Peicheng Village: Originally named Huiqu, Luohe’s Peicheng Village was renamed after the famous Tang Dynasty chancellor Pei Du once stayed there. The village is now under the jurisdiction of Peicheng Town, Yancheng District, Luohe City, Henan Province. It is located in the southwestern part of the town, about 3.8 kilometers from the town government. “When a fierce snowstorm blew, the army flags were torn, and frozen soldiers and horses lay dead across the landscape.” This describes the scene when Li (referring to General Li Su) marched to attack Cai Prefecture.
