Deshengmen Gate Tower
Deshengmen was one of the important iconic structures along Beijing's central axis, serving as the northern gate of the Imperial City, while Tiananmen was the southern gate. By the end of 1954, Deshengmen was demolished to ease urban traffic.
Deshengmen played an important historical role. As the northern gate of the Imperial City, it was commonly used by emperors when they set out northward for military expeditions or inspections, and also when they personally worshipped at the Temple of Earth.
