Former Site of the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base
The Former Site of the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.
The Former Site of the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base is located at No. 62 Zhongyuan Road, Xincheng Town (Xinxian County), Xinxian County, Henan Province.
The site was originally the residence of a wealthy landlord, featuring a long corridor that runs through the entire compound, dividing it into two sections. The entire compound consists of five courtyards, with seven traditional Chinese-style buildings and over 60 rooms. In 1931 and 1932, the Central Eyuwan Bureau of the CPC and the Eyuwan Provincial Committee of the CPC were stationed here.
In November 1927, following the Huangma Uprising, revolutionary bases were successively established in the Dabie Mountain region — the Eyu Border Area, the Southeastern Henan Area, and the Western Anhui Area. Through continuous development and expansion, by April 1930, the three bases were connected, forming the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base. In 1931, after the Red Army captured Xinji in Xinxian County, the area became the political, economic, and cultural center of the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base.
In May 1931, the Central Eyuwan Bureau and the Revolutionary Military Commission were established in Xinji. Zhang Guotao served as the director of the bureau and the chairman of the military commission, with Chen Changhao, Shen Zemin, Zeng Zhongsheng, Shu Chuanxian, Guo Shushen, Zhou Chunquan, and Gao Jingting among the bureau members, and Zeng Zhongsheng also serving as vice-chairman of the military commission. In July of the same year, the Second Soviet Congress of the Eyuwan Border Area was held in Xinji, leading to the establishment of the Eyuwan Provincial Soviet Government, with Gao Jingting as chairman. In November of the same year, the Fourth Front Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was formed, with [Name] as commander-in-chief and Zhang Guotao as political commissar. In January 1932, the Eyuwan Provincial Committee of the CPC was established, with Shen Zemin as secretary. The Central Eyuwan Bureau and the military commission stayed in Xinji for one year and four months. After the failure of the Fourth Counter-Encirclement Campaign in October 1932, they withdrew from the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base along with the Fourth Front Army.
The Former Site of the Eyuwan Revolutionary Base is relatively well-preserved. At the site of the former Central Eyuwan Bureau, the offices of the military commission, the former residence of [Name], the provincial committee and its meeting room, the confidential offices of the bureau and the committee, the offices and residences of Shen Zemin, Guo Shushen, Cheng Fangwu, Chen Changhao, and the women's department of the provincial committee have been preserved.
