Former Site of the Headquarters of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army

The Former Site of the Headquarters of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

One site is located in Songjiapu Village, Balifan Town, Xin County, originally the ancestral temple of the Song family, now comprising seven existing rooms covering an area of 700 square meters; the other is situated in Zhengbiandawan Village, Jianchanghe Township, Xin County, with four surviving rooms facing south, built with brick walls and tiled roofs. In late August 1947, the Liu-Deng Army entered the Dabie Mountains. On the 29th, the field army headquarters moved into the ancestral temple of the Song family in Balifan, Xin County. There, Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping instructed the Second Column to block the pursuing enemy in the northern part of the Dabie Mountains and cover the Third and Sixth Columns as they advanced to the southern mountains. At the same time, to quickly establish a foothold, they ordered the Political Work Minister of the Field Army Headquarters, Rao Mingde, to go to Jingfu County (now Xin County) to serve as the county party secretary, tasked with developing local work. On September 3, Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping led the field army headquarters to reside here once again. In December 1947, the headquarters of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army was stationed at the residence of a landlord in Zhengbiandawan Village, Jianchanghe Township, Xin County. The west side served as the headquarters meeting room, with the living quarters of the headquarters leaders—Deng Xiaoping, Li Xiannian, and Li Da—located to its west, while the east side housed the wireless radio station. Deng Xiaoping held land reform work meetings here and delivered important reports.

Balifan Town: Located in the northeastern part of Xin County, Xinyang City, Henan Province, Balifan Town is traversed by Provincial Highway Nanxin Ye. The town covers a total area of 94 square kilometers, including 90,000 mu of mountainous land and 16,400 mu of arable land. It administers one neighborhood committee—Balifan—and 11 administrative villages: Zhangdian, Shenliuqiao, Ao Mountain, Shuikou, Zheng’ao, Nie’tan, Changhe, Qilongshan, Nanchong, Changgang, and Wanglihe, encompassing 225 villager groups, 135 natural villages, 9,364 households, and a population of 28,278.
