Red Field is located near Lijihe Village at the southern end of Lenin Primary School in Jianchanghe Township. Originally a rice paddy, in December 1927, after the Huangma Uprising suffered setbacks, a landlord-led militia collaborated with a battalion from the Instructional Brigade of the Nationalist Party’s 12th Army to invade the Jianchanghe area. They ferociously suppressed revolutionary masses, successively executing over 300 Communist Party members and revolutionaries—including Cheng Huaitian—right in this rice paddy, creating a horrifying massacre. The martyrs’ blood dyed the entire field red, leading local people to reverently call it “Red Field.” To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs, the Xin County government erected a 5-meter-high monument here, inscribed with a commemorative text. In 1979, it was designated as a key revolutionary memorial site of Xin County.
