The Site of the May 1st Model Factory is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The Red Army in the Eyuwan Border Region developed rapidly and urgently needed standardized uniforms. After the establishment of the Special District Workers' and Peasants' Democratic Government, a May 1st Model Factory was built in Dongxiaping, north of Xinzhen City. The administrator was W. ××, and the mail clerk was Xiong Zuohai. Over 300 workers were recruited, most of whom were women. The factory included workshops for weaving, dyeing, and sewing, equipped with ten looms, sewing machines, and cotton fluffers. It specialized in making uniforms, hats, shoes, socks, and bedding for the Red Army. Thanks to the workers’ dedication and efforts in overcoming various challenges, by November 1931 when the Fourth Front Army of the Red Army was established, the troops were all dressed in uniform.
