Former Site of the Headquarters of the 25th Red Army

The former site of the headquarters of the 25th Red Army is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the headquarters of the 25th Red Army is located in Minjiashan, Fangwan Village, Jianchanghe Township, Xin County. In the autumn of 1932, after the main force of the Fourth Red Army withdrew westward, the Hubei-Henan-Anhui Provincial Committee re-established the 25th Red Army at Tan Shugang at the end of November. The army was led by Commander Wu Huanxian, Political Commissar Wang Pingzhang, and Deputy Commander Xu Haidong, with a total strength of about 5,000 troops. With the support of local militias, they continued their struggle in the revolutionary base. In July 1933, the headquarters of the 25th Red Army was stationed here. The walls of the former headquarters building still preserve slogans handwritten by Zheng Weisan, then the Director of the Political Department of the 25th Red Army, such as “To ensure the autumn harvest and plowing, resolutely expand the 25th Red Army and crush the enemy’s new offensive” and “The October Revolution has opened a path for China’s working and peasant masses.” In 1986, the People's Government of Henan Province listed the former site of the 25th Red Army headquarters as a provincial-level key revolutionary cultural relic protection unit.

The former site of the headquarters of the 25th Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was originally the Min Family Ancestral Hall. It consists of two rows of buildings covering an area of 378 square meters, with a total of 14 rooms. The structure is made of brick and wood and features a typical southern Chinese architectural style. The building is largely well-preserved.

Fangwan Village: Fangwan Village is located in the southeastern part of Jianchanghe Township, approximately 6.5 kilometers from the township government seat. The village covers a total area of 7.4 square kilometers, comprising 8 natural villages and 16 villager groups, with a total population of 1,234 people in 324 households.

The village is rich in red heritage. It is home to the former site of the 25th Red Army headquarters, a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and the only “national treasure” of its kind in the county’s towns. It is also the original location of the wall inscription of the national (revolutionary) first-class cultural relic, the Outline of the Land Law of the Chinese Soviet Republic. This inscription is now a prized exhibit in the county museum.
