Beijing Shichahai Sports School
Beijing Shichahai Sports School was founded in 1958 and is situated on the west bank of Shichahai in central Beijing. Covering a land area of 33,696 square meters and a building area of 46,893 square meters, it is a “National Key Secondary Vocational School” and a “National High-Level Sports Reserve Talent Base” affiliated with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports. The school is tasked with cultivating high-level professional athletes and reserve talents for both Beijing and the nation. Originally known as the “Beijing Shichahai Youth Amateur Sports School,” it was officially renamed “Beijing Shichahai Sports School” in 1986. Since its establishment, the school has trained over 3,000 outstanding athletes, many of whom have stood on the podiums of the Olympics, World Championships, and World Cups. To date, 38 athletes from the school have won world championships, including seven Olympic champions.
The school currently has more than 800 long-term training athletes, ranging in age from 6 to 30 years old. These athletes are divided into three categories: Beijing municipal professional teams, secondary sports classes, and youth amateur training. In accordance with the overall arrangement of competitive sports programs in Beijing, the school operates eight municipal professional teams in taekwondo, boxing, badminton, wushu, sanda, golf, fencing, and karate. These teams are responsible for representing Beijing in national competitions as well as the Olympic, Asian, and National Games. There are also secondary sports classes in eight disciplines—taekwondo, boxing, badminton, wushu, sanda, fencing, and karate—tasked with supplying top-tier reserve athletes to the professional teams. Additionally, the school offers amateur training programs for domestic and international sports enthusiasts and rents out its facilities to meet the needs of public fitness activities.
