Zhoukou Huawei Folk Culture Museum Garden

Zhoukou Huawei Folk Culture Museum Garden is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Established in the early 1990s, Zhoukou Huawei Folk Culture Museum Garden is a comprehensive museum complex that engages in the collection, preservation, exhibition, and replication of folk cultural artifacts, as well as organizing and co-hosting various cultural exchange activities for government agencies, enterprises, institutions, and the art community. In June 2009, it was officially approved for establishment by the Henan Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau (Document No. Yu Cultural Relics Bo [2009] 17). The museum houses over 10,000 items, including historical epitaphs and stone inscriptions, Han Dynasty portrait bricks, ancient ceramics, historic architectural components, antique furniture, farming culture objects, stone carvings, and calligraphy and paintings by notable figures. Nine permanent exhibitions are open to the public year-round: the Huawei Art Gallery, Ancient Stone Inscription Corridor, Hundred Lions Garden, Folk Farming Culture Museum, Ancient Bed Museum, Ancient Architectural Components Art Exhibition Center, Stone Carving Landscape Belt, Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Hall, and a uniquely distinctive display of famous couplet artworks.

Since opening to the public free of charge, the museum has jointly organized and hosted over 40 cultural exhibitions and exchange events with the Provincial Calligraphers Association, municipal government, Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, daily newspaper, Municipal Calligraphers Association, and others. These include joint calligraphy and painting exhibitions between Zhoukou and Ulanqab (Inner Mongolia), Shangrao (Jiangxi), Yulin (Shaanxi), and Yichang (Hubei), as well as invitation exhibitions such as the “Invitation Exhibition of Works by Mr. Sun Haichen,” the “Homeland Sentiments” touring exhibition of oil paintings by renowned painter Wei Guoyin, Sima Wudang’s “Diligence and Thrift Culture Calligraphy Exhibition,” the “Great Brushstrokes of Ink” joint calligraphy exhibition between Zhoukou and Shangrao, and the “Ink Aroma Lingering” calligraphy and painting exhibition by Xu Dongfang and his students. The museum has also held over 30 public welfare cultural activities annually, including free Spring Festival couplet writing, touring exhibitions on the farming civilization of eastern Henan, celebrations for National Day, the founding of the Communist Party, World Museum Day, and Intangible Cultural Heritage Day. It has received over 80 social groups from various sectors, including Zhoukou Normal University, the Henan Winter Swimming Association, Zhengzhou Free Fish School, and left-behind children from Shangshui County, with a total of more than 1.86 million visitors. Each year, the museum actively participates in the “Dream Fulfillment Action,” having sponsored over 10 university students to complete their studies. It has donated over 200,000 yuan cumulatively to disaster-stricken areas and disadvantaged groups. Additionally, it has contributed 248 cultural relics, including antique furniture, a giant rhinoceros skull fossil, and stationery items, to the municipal museum, greatly enriching the cultural and tourism resources of the city.

The rich collection provides a solid resource foundation for the development of Huawei’s cultural and creative products. To date, over 200 types of cultural and creative products have been produced, including Selected Collections from Zhoukou Huawei Folk Culture Museum Garden, stone carving mural scrolls, stone carving mural albums, Han Dynasty painting scrolls, Han Dynasty painting albums, and ancient auspicious pattern ornaments. In July 2011, the Ming Dynasty stone rubbing “Eight Immortals Holding a Longevity Peach with Azure Dragon and White Tiger Bringing Auspiciousness” and Laozi’s “Tao Te Ching” from Luyi were jointly presented as city gifts to the Spanish Overseas Chinese Association and the Fuenlabrada Municipal Government in Spain. The cultural and creative product “Treasured Rubbings” and the rubbing scroll “Han Dynasty Farming” won the Creative Award and Gold Award at the 2nd and 3rd Central Plains (Hebi) Cultural Industry Expo respectively in 2015 and 2016. They also achieved excellent social and economic benefits at the 11th Yiwu Cultural Products Fair in Zhejiang in 2016. Plans are underway to establish the Huawei Art Exchange Center, which will cover business areas such as Han Dynasty paintings, stone carving cultural and creative products, folk objects, calligraphy and paintings by notable figures, Zhoukou’s time-honored brands, and Central Plains tribute products.

Zhoukou Huawei Folk Culture Museum Garden has been awarded numerous honors and recognized as a practice base for universities, including: Group Member of the Chinese Museums Association, National AA-Level Tourist Attraction, Henan Provincial Cultural Industry Demonstration Base, Top 50 Henan Cultural Enterprises, Advanced Unit of Patriotic Health Campaign in Henan Province, Advanced Unit in the Study and Practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development by Henan Social Organizations, Henan Provincial Science Education Base, Civilized Unit of Zhoukou City, Patriotic Education Demonstration Base of Zhoukou City, Advanced Unit in Museum Management of Zhoukou City, Creation and Training Base for Mao Guodian Calligraphy Specialized Advanced Research Class of Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts, Practice Base for Cultural Heritage Studies of Henan University, Internship and Training Base of Zhoukou Vocational and Technical College, Educational Practice Base for the National Training Program of Zhoukou Normal University, Practice Education Base of Zhoukou Normal University, Practical Teaching Base of Zhoukou Vocational and Technical College, Social Practice Base for Young Reporters of Zhoukou Evening News, Learning Base of Zhoukou Community Service Volunteers Federation, and Popular Science Base of China Incense Culture Research Center.
