Kyoto cherry blossom spots to visit – enjoy the pink "sea of sakura" reflecting on the waterside of the Kamo River

The Kamo River is, in my heart, forever the No. 1 sight in Kyoto. Whenever I come here, it brings me immense satisfaction for my body, mind, and soul. And in early spring during the cherry blossom season, the tranquil and beautiful Kamo River is adorned with two stunning cherry blossom ribbons. The continuous blossoms along both banks make the lovely Miss Kamo River even more enchanting, deepening my love for her more and more — I’m simply hopelessly captivated...

There are many cherry blossom trees along the Kamo River, but I’d like to recommend two particularly worthwhile hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots. One is the “Hanoki-dori” (Half-Wood Road) between Kitaoji and Kitayama, and the other is the Kamo River Delta near Demachiyanagi, which I’ll introduce here. The Kamo River Delta is where the Kamogawa and Takano Rivers converge. The Kamo River stepping stones that span the delta—also known as the “Kamo River Turtle Steps”—are a must-visit attraction in Kyoto. When I was a student in Kyoto, I often came here after class. I’d sit at the very tip of the delta... watching the flow of traffic and people. This place is, to me, the most wonderful and memorable spot in Kyoto.

On the day I visited the Kamo River, the weather was gloomy, and there was even some light rain. But just as I was about to leave, the sun suddenly came out, shining brightly. Against the clear sky, the cherry blossoms along the Kamo River were absolutely breathtaking... leaving me utterly enchanted... as if I could give up everything for it...
