Zhuangke Site

The Zhuangke Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Period: Neolithic Age, Shang Dynasty

The Zhuangke Site is located north of Zhuangke Village, Changning Township, Yu County, Hebei Province. This site covers a large area and boasts extremely rich cultural content, featuring remains from the Yangshao, Longshan, Early Shang, Lower Xiajiadian, Han, and Liao periods. The southern terrace of the site has the richest remains, with a cultural layer up to 5 meters thick, where ash pits and burial remains can be seen on the exposed cliffs.

Artifacts from the Longshan period at the site include stone axes, fine cord-marked li tripods made of sandy gray pottery, plain flat-rimmed basins, and ring-footed dou vessels. These items bear a strong resemblance to those found in the upper layer of Zhengzhou’s Erligang site, dating them to the Early Shang period. It is an important site discovered in Zhangjiakou City.

In July 2013, it was designated as part of the seventh group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
