Qionghua Island
Qionghua Island is located in the southern part of Taiye Pool in Beihai Park. It was named Qionghua Island during the Jin Dynasty, and known as Wanshou Mountain (or Longevity Mountain) during the Yuan Dynasty. In the eighth year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1651), a white pagoda was built on the mountain’s summit, and it began to be called White Pagoda Mountain. Qionghua Island is commonly referred to as Qiong Island, and because of the white pagoda on it, it is also popularly known as "White Pagoda Mountain." The island is 32.3 meters high and has a circumference of 913 meters. Qionghua, meaning "magnificent jade," was chosen as the name to signify that the island is a fairyland isle built from precious jade.
