Huguo Temple Diamond Hall
Huguo Temple Diamond Hall is a protected cultural heritage site of Beijing.
Huguo Temple Diamond Hall is located on Dongxiang of Huguo Temple in Xicheng District, Beijing. It is one of the few remaining structures of the former Huguo Temple, which also included the Hall of Boundless, Hall of Merit, Hall of Bodhisattva, monks' quarters, and corridors. Originally built in the 21st year of the Zhiyuan era during the Yuan Dynasty (1284), the temple was also known as the West Temple, corresponding to the East Temple, Longfu Temple. It was once a renowned temple in the capital.
The existing Diamond Hall is well-preserved and represents official Ming and Qing architectural style. It features a width of five bays, a depth of two bays, measuring 11.3 meters in length and 24.7 meters in width. The single-eave hip-and-gable roof is covered with black glazed tiles trimmed with green edges. Decorative elements such as the ridge ornaments, vertical beasts, diagonal beasts, and immortal figures can still be seen inside the hall. Visiting this historic building while sampling snacks at Beijing’s Huguo Temple is a worthwhile choice.
