Crescent Bay Park

Crescent Bay, also known as Half Moon Bay, is located at the northernmost tip of North Changshan Island, stretching about 2 kilometers in length and resembling a giant crescent moon. As you step into Crescent Bay, the most eye-catching sight is the hundred-meter-long pebble beach. The stones here are as white as jade and crystal clear—each one is so captivating that you won’t want to put it down. In 1979, Ye Jianying visited Changdao and composed an inscription for Crescent Bay: “On Inner Changshan’s Moon Bay, fishermen, farmers, and stone fields thrive; pricy pebbles shine bright, yet women and children find picking them no easy task.” Major attractions in Crescent Bay include the Crescent Beach, the Seal Garden, the Photo Exhibition Hall of Zhang Jian’s Bohai Strait Swim, the Statue of Su Dongpo, the SARS Memorial Monument, the Monument of Inscriptions by National Leaders, and the Monument Commemorating the 13th National Islands Conference.

The main structures in the park include a 20-meter-high “Crescent Pavilion” that blends Chinese and Western architectural styles, the “Wave-Watching Pavilion” standing atop the cliffs, and a corridor about 1 kilometer long. In front of the corridor, there is a hundred-meter-long “stone carpet” paved with pebbles, giving visitors the feeling of “walking on pearls.”

Attractions

The most charming feature of Crescent Bay is its pebbles, creating a dazzling world of stone treasures. Some are as white as fine jade, others as translucent as amber. No matter where you pick them up, you’ll find it hard to let even one go.

Transportation

Getting to the Island

To get to Changdao, you must first go to Penglai. Take a passenger ferry from Penglai Ferry Terminal to the island. Ferry service runs from 6:00 to 18:30, with boats departing approximately every 20–30 minutes. The one-way fare is 30 RMB per person, and the round-trip fare is 60 RMB per person.

Intra-island Transportation

Chartered Vehicle: Although taxis are available on the island, chartering a vehicle is more cost-effective for traveling between various scenic spots.

Bicycle: Many fishing families rent out bicycles. If you’re not in a rush during your visit, you can rent one from them.

Changdao Scenic Area All-Line Pass: 180 RMB (valid for three days), includes Jiuzhangya, Half Moon Bay, Wangfu Reef, Fairyland Source, Fengshan, and Forest Sea Park.

North Line Pass: 120 RMB (valid for two days), includes Jiuzhangya, Crescent Bay, and Wangfu Reef.

South Line Pass: 120 RMB (valid for two days), includes Forest Sea, Fengshan, and Fairyland Source.
